September 18, 1916

Sept 18. 4 a.m. Start for trenches, east of Bully Grenay. Aid-post very dilapidated and unsuitable in position – but trenches good.

Ground round very pretty with long grass and flowers and like being out on a moor when one gets out of trench. Vimy Ridge on our right front.
In trenches to 24th and quiet except for minenwefers.

[Minenwerfers – (“Mine Launcher”) a class of short-range mortars used extensively by the German Army during WW1.]
