Nov 21. Relieved and start to march back in thick fog to reserve line in Station Alley, road from Beaumont Hamel to Hamel Station. H.Q. guide lost his way and was taking us over to Bosch line. When we met a patrol of which turned us back. Reached our H.Q. in Station Alley about 2.a.m. Found it in a good dug out – though leaky in old German cook house. Battalion bivouacked under hill across the valley; about 50 yds off across a grave yd. with graves blown open – and old railway line with derailed engines and trucks lying about.
