Feb.6. To go up to A.D.S. at Foncquevillers as M/O
tonight to relieve Capt. Way.
Arrived at dressing station at 5.45.p.m. It
is in a small farm-house in village with a courtyard
and out houses in front, all rather knocked about
by shell fire, underneath is a cellar for men,
and very small dug out for self, with two exits
so arranged that if a shell hits house it will collapse
neatly on top and form a good covering. In mean
time have a comfortable room and good fire but
no glass in windows, which are unfathomably large,
covered with waterproof sheets at night.
Way says has had a lot of shelling getting worse
and fortells my decease in 48 hours.
There is a [Howitzer] battery about 50 yds behind us
and behind them some R.F.A. both of which the
Bosh is searching for.
