Aug 7. Morning quiet. Evening, heavy barrage all
round aid post – all lying down along banks of road
for 1 1/2 hours and shells coming very close. Then
had dinner. Our battalion later made an attack
on the Intermediate Trench and got in but could not
hold it. About 12 going down to aid post – got
my helmet dented by bit of shrapnel.
