December 2, 1915

Thursday Dec.2. Went to A.D.M.S. for orders. To be on train for Rouen at 9.30.p.m. – So spent day in walking about town; went out to Ordnance Stores with Chase, who got mackintosh there – lunch at hotel – tea at officers club and dinner at a restaurant rather a hurried meal. Then to Hotel de Ville where we found motor lauries to take us and our kits to station.

Train in goods yard – and had to get our kits on board our selves. Well served out with rations, bully and biscuit – and got water bottles filled with hot coffee at Y.M.C.A. hut(.)

I managed to get in carriage with only three other men so was comfortable. Train started at 11.30. Railway runs through streets of Harve – Train very slow about 4 miles an hour. There were no lights in the train so we soon all fell asleep – awakening about 4am to find ourselves in a siding at Rouen. Here we got our bottles filled with hot coffee at a Y.M.C.A. hut and had biscuits and coffee – and slept in train until 8.am. It had been raining all night and still doing so. Enjoying Active Service so far.
