Jan.6. Rode with Macfarlen to Pommier in
aft. to see sick R.F.A. battery; saw guns and
gun pits and went into same for first time.
Horse very fresh and reared up and fell into a large
shell hole when I mounted, but neither self
nor horse hurt. Found letter from M.K.E. and
candle lamp on return.
