July 10, 1916

July 10. Attack on Contalmaison about 4 p.m. A
number of Scotties outside my aid post were wounded
while waiting to advance – and later got number of
wounded both British and German; finished them
by 12 p.m. and then started off with stretchers
to my battalion – on the way we got lost and
finally entered our trench over the firing side,
found them being heavily shelled – and brought
back several casualties – getting back to aid post
by 5 a.m.
