May 18, 1916

May 18. Join 11 Warwicks as temp. M/O for 7 days at La Couchié. Boy Jones of Dryden House left Sept/06 sharing billet but first going on leave. Barwell, Sidney [House] 04 to 08 also in this Batt. but is on leave. Batt. not in trenches but in village two miles behind the lines and sends up working parties every night – very little to do.

[Barwell, Sidney House, Oundle School ’04 to ’08 – Captain Hugh William Eames Barwell, MC. and Croix de Guerre, for conspicuous gallantry and good service at Beaumont Hamel in November, 1916. He was 25 years of age, and was educated at Oundle and Birmingham University where he took the degree of B.Sc. just before outbreak of war. He joined at once, and was given his commission in the 11th Royal Warwick Regiment, and served two years in France, being promoted captain in December, 1915. In July 1917 he was transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. On 25th March 1918 he was reported missing and presumed killed in action.]

 

[Boy Jones – Capt. John Keane Jones, 11th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Transferred to Indian Army 1917. Fought in WW2 as Commander, 16th Indian Infantry Brigade (Burma) and was awarded DSO 1942 Burma. John Keane Jones was a pupil at Oundle, Dryden House, 1906 to 1909]
